About The Position

Shalom House, Inc. is seeking an experienced Finance Director to join our leadership team in Portland, Maine. For more than 50 years, Shalom House has provided safe, supportive housing and community-based services that help adults living with severe and persistent mental illness lead stable, fulfilling lives. Today, Shalom House manages 27 residential properties and administers over $23 million in annual revenue through a diverse funding structure that includes public grants and contracts. The Finance Director plays a critical leadership role in ensuring financial stability, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth.

Requirements

Commitment to the mission and values of Shalom House
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Significant financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
Expertise in nonprofit accounting, budgeting, forecasting, audits, and financial reporting
Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and foster a collaborative work environment

Nice To Haves

Experience with MaineCare billing, DHHS contracts, and HUD funding is highly desirable.
An advanced degree or professional certification such as CPA, CMA, CFA, MBA, or MPA is a plus.

Responsibilities

Leading financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Ensuring compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, and applicable regulations
Preparing timely financial reports, analyses, and board presentations
Overseeing accounting operations, audits, cost reporting, and contract compliance
Managing relationships with funders, auditors, and regulatory agencies
Supervising and developing finance staff while maintaining strong internal controls and financial policies
Supporting organizational decision-making through strategic financial analysis
