About The Position

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Research & Development (IMR&D) is seeking a Finance Director, Therapeutics Development & Supply (TDS). This role provides financial leadership and analysis to the global TDS organization, which manages approximately $1 billion in operating expenses, over $250 million in capital investments, and around 2,800 full-time equivalents (FTEs). The position also supports reporting and analytics for approximately $1 billion in clinical supply chain project spend. The Finance Director will be a key member of the TDS leadership team and the IMR&D Global Finance Leadership Team, overseeing a team of 15 individuals, including four direct reports, located in various global sites. Key responsibilities include financial oversight of functional and project expenses, headcount, and capital, as well as broad financial leadership for specific sites. The role involves close collaboration with the Innovative Medicine Supply Chain organization on product lifecycle management and development decisions, long-range financial planning, and coordination of quarterly closing processes and financial reporting to leadership. The Finance Director will also be involved in ad hoc projects and analysis, challenging assumptions, developing financial scenarios, and influencing strategies to deliver cost-effective product development and platform innovation.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of Finance/Accounting experience is required.
  • Prior experience managing and developing direct reports is required.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to partner and influence external partners and people at all levels of the organization is required.
  • Superior communication, business partnering, problem-solving, and prioritization skills are also required.
  • Must be self-motivated with a track record of demonstrated leadership abilities with both senior business leaders, direct reports, and finance colleagues.
  • Must have the ability to maintain and improve consistent and sound business processes in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment.

Nice To Haves

  • A CPA/CMA or MBA is preferred.
  • Prior experience in R&D or Supply Chain finance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial leadership on the Global TDS Senior Leadership Teams.
  • Serve as a member of the IMR&D Global Finance Leadership Team.
  • Oversee a global organization of 15, including 4 direct reports, managing budgeting, forecasting, and expenses for functional areas, projects, headcount, and capital.
  • Provide broad financial leadership over site management and operations for IMR&D sites in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and Leiden, Netherlands.
  • Coordinate financial support and change management for the IM site in Bern, Switzerland.
  • Partner closely with the Innovative Medicine Supply Chain organization regarding product lifecycle management and development decisions.
  • Lead Long Range Financial Planning, including operating and capital expenses.
  • Coordinate Quarterly Closing Processes and report quarterly Financial Results to the Leadership team.
  • Conduct ad hoc projects and analysis.
  • Provide financial leadership in developing long-term strategies and short-term tactics to deliver cost-effective product development and platform innovation.
  • Support capital allocation for strategic optimization of lab and pilot plant footprint and shape the global sourcing strategy.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all financial matters impacting the overall function, including operational expenses, project expenses, capital, and headcount.
  • Challenge assumptions, develop scenarios, educate multi-disciplinary business partners about financial issues, and influence implementation of strategies.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in formulating scorecard metrics and benchmarking analysis to measure cost, quality, and time for activities and strategies.
  • Utilize financial analysis to provide recommendations for opportunities to create value by improving cycle time, quality, cost efficiencies, or productivity.
  • Provide Business Development Deal support for Platform Technologies and Process Development.
  • Collaborate with IMR&D, Innovative Medicine Supply Chain (IMSC), Advanced Therapies Supply Chain (ATSC), and European principal companies to align on financial reporting and cost transparency.
  • Supervise, provide day-to-day guidance and support to managers, analysts, FLDP, and/or Co-ops on the global team.
  • Develop, adjust, implement, and maintain an organizational design that supports global business partners in multiple locations worldwide.
  • Adapt support structures to accommodate changes in business models and structures.
  • Develop functional goals and objectives aligned with Finance and business goals.
  • Provide an environment for professional growth of staff, including actionable feedback, recognition, and rewards.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring in support of staff development plans.
  • Ensure quarterly close is done in compliance with SOX and other reporting requirements.
  • Provide timely and actionable reporting and analysis of actual vs. forecast for leadership teams, including BVA, gross to net P&L, headcount, and capital.
  • Implement process improvements on internal financial processes (e.g., quarterly close, forecasting, long-range financial and capital plan).
  • Identify innovative ways to increase efficiency and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure adherence to the Credo, J&J Business policies, Healthcare Compliance policies, GAAP, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Provide support and financial expertise to financial system and process implementations.
  • Complete ad hoc projects, process improvements, or special requests as needed.
