About The Position

The Sr. Specialized Finance Analyst, TDS performs a variety of specialized finance functions in a particular finance area(s) with a high level of technical knowledge to give detailed and well-informed opinions of assigned business activities. This is an expert level professional role requiring in-depth knowledge/expertise in own domain/field of specialty and working knowledge of broader related areas. The role integrates the broader organizational context into advice and solutions within its own area. It is accountable for its own work and sometimes others', acting as an escalation point or knowledge resource for others in their own area. The analyst understands the industry, competition, and the factors that differentiate the organization. They apply best practices to implement process, product, or service improvements and act as a subject matter expert within their own area of specialty or a resource for others. The role supports projects or workstreams within broader projects with moderate risk or complexity and may be accountable for managing ongoing activities, processes, and functional programs. They contribute to setting standards within their area of expertise, solve complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables, including consultation with multiple stakeholders, and use advanced methods to contribute to new solutions and recommend standards against which others will operate. This role impacts a range of finance programs across own and related teams, interprets guidelines, standards, policies, and results of analysis to inform decision-making at senior levels, and builds stakeholder alignment in leading projects and activities, potentially providing process and subject matter advice at senior levels. The analyst works independently as the senior technical lead and guides others within their area of expertise, identifies and leads problem resolution for complex issues at all levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the month-end close process as well as balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Advanced skills in spreadsheet applications combined with strong analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, showing initiative, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and attentive to detail, with a focus on meeting deadlines.
  • Undergraduate degree and/or 5+ years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Accounting, financial or relevant professional designation preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidates will have one to two or more years of accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of the finance industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine reconciliation between sub ledger and general ledger, ensuring accurate alignment and integrity of financial data across multiple accounts.
  • Conduct month-end balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies to support timely and reliable financial reporting.
  • Support the accounting team by assisting with internal and external audit requests as needed.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as assigned, including process improvement initiatives and special analyses to meet departmental objectives.
  • Provides ongoing, proactive, specialized finance advice and counsel to business partners to ensure they are operating efficiently under applicable accounting rules and regulations.
  • Communicates and meets regularly with partners to develop an in-depth understanding of their business and to provide accounting/taxation insight, knowledge and expertise, such as improving accounting process flows or clarifying income and expense recognition practices.
  • Recognizes, identifies and investigates business accounting issues that need attention, researches as needed, offers specialized opinions based on research and knowledge and resolves problems.
  • Responds to accounting-related requests on a timely basis and answers questions as needed.
  • Provides technical guidance and assist staff with most complex aspects of work as necessary.
  • Resolves escalated issues and problems by conferring with peers, other internal departments, outside contacts and others as necessary.
  • Ensures monthly recording of income, expense and other financial transactions is accurate and timely.
  • Researches and determines proper accounting treatment for new products and services as needed and communicate complete, thorough and accurate accounting requirements; considers and explains risk management issues prior to implementation, such as determining how the accounting of new initiatives will be monitored and controlled.
  • Performs a variety of activities related to month-end financial closing, which details the Bank's month-to-month financial condition, and/or completion of regulatory reports.
  • Reviews monthly financial activity and ensures transactions are appropriately recorded in proper accounts, such as cost capitalizing vs. expensing. Researches discrepancies and makes corrections and updates as necessary.
  • Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for our business area.
  • Ensures respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities.
  • Consistently exercises discretion in managing correspondence, information and all matters of confidentiality; escalates issues where appropriate.
  • Ensures business operations are in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements (e.g., financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals and physical control of assets).
  • Participates in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations.
  • Conducts internal and external research projects; supports the development/delivery of presentations / communications to management or broader audience.
  • Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/policies/practices.
  • Monitors service, productivity and assesses efficiency levels within own function and implements continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist.
  • Leads / facilitates and/or implements actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues.
  • Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts.
  • Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite.
  • Participates fully as a member of the team, supports a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensures timely communication of issues/points of interest.
