About The Position

On behalf of The Ministry of Justice, we are looking for a Finance Business Partner - Inside IR35 for a 12 month contract working on a hybrid basis (2 days per week in London and remaining WFH). The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government’s ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public. Ministry of Justice Digital Services designs, builds and supports user-centred digital and technology services for the justice system: services that make a real difference to our staff, members of the public and their families who use them. Millions of people every year interact with our services, and Digital & Technology play an important role in improving access to justice and making that experience much easier and less distressing. This role will be part of the Finance Business Partner Team supporting Ministry of Justice Digital. The immediate team supports the Director of Digital and his Senior Management Team and supports them in managing a budget of approximately £300m and the postholder will be part of a team of 1 xG7 and 3 x SEO Finance Business Partners. The Director of Digital area supports the Central Digital function and the operations facing digital teams covering areas such as Prisons, Probation, Legal Aid, OPG and CICA. The team is the face of finance for the Digital teams and a lot of the role involves liaising between the business and other finance teams across the department. This specific role will be supporting Probation Digital and helping them spend funding that has increased 3 fold from previous years particularly linked to independent sentencing review.

Requirements

Significant experience in a Finance Business Partnering role within a complex organisation.
Demonstrable experience supporting senior stakeholders and building trusted relationships quickly.
Strong ability to translate financial information into clear business insight and articulate the narrative behind the numbers.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to a range of audiences, including non-finance stakeholders.
Proven ability to influence, challenge and support stakeholders appropriately, exercising sound judgement.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and provide practical recommendations.
Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.
Ability to understand the strategic objectives of the business and align financial advice accordingly.
Evidence of using facts and data to support negotiation, challenge and decision-making.
A collaborative approach, promoting knowledge sharing and effective partnership working.
A proactive, service-focused mindset with the ability to deliver at pace and manage competing priorities.
High levels of emotional intelligence and the ability to work empathetically with a broad range of stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

Fully qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
Candidates with substantial Finance Business Partnering experience who are not professionally qualified will also be considered.
Experience working within central government, the public sector or similarly complex environments.
Experience supporting digital, technology or transformation programmes.
Knowledge of government finance processes and controls.
Experience supporting large, complex budgets and investment decisions.
Understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with digital service delivery.

Responsibilities

Partner with senior stakeholders across Probation Digital to provide proactive financial advice, challenge and support.
Support the effective management of budgets, forecasts and financial plans within a complex digital and technology environment.
Translate financial data into clear, meaningful insights that support strategic and operational decision-making.
Provide robust financial analysis and identify risks, opportunities and trends to inform business planning.
Work collaboratively with business leaders to ensure funding is allocated and utilised effectively to deliver agreed outcomes.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across Digital Services and wider corporate finance teams.
Act as the key interface between finance and the business, helping colleagues understand financial implications and interdependencies.
Support month-end and forecasting processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
Challenge assumptions constructively and provide balanced advice to support effective decision-making.
Use evidence and data to influence stakeholders and support negotiations where required.
Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across finance and the wider business.
Contribute to the development and improvement of financial processes, reporting and controls.
Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed timescales in a fast-paced and changing environment.
