About The Position

The City of Collinsville is seeking applicants for a full-time, non-exempt Finance Associate. This position is a fast-paced, customer-facing role that works directly with team members and a variety of City Departments, to provide a wide range of services to Collinsville City Hall customers. Here in Collinsville, the ideal candidate for this position will be self-motivated, highly organized, eager to learn, with a positive attitude and excellent communication and problem-solving skills, all while utilizing sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • 3 years of customer support experience or experience of customer service
  • Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn new tasks, ask questions, and adapt as policies and laws change
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to perform independent research (e.g., checking multiple software programs for records and cross-referencing information)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to stay calm and maintain composure during stressful situations
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and in writing
  • Ability to work with people at all levels, including the public, staff, and other municipal, county, and state officials
  • Comfortable with cash handling and high volumes of financial transactions; skilled in cash balancing
  • General knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to fund accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, and general ledger functions
  • Comfortable with technology and capable of guiding customers through various web applications in person and over the phone

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to City of Collinsville customers, including residents, non-resident water and sewer customers, internal staff, and elected officials
  • Answer all City Hall main-line phone calls, assist or redirect callers as needed
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (in person, phone, online, email, etc.) in a prompt, accurate, and friendly manner
  • Process cash, credit card, check, and ACH payments for utility bills, permits, and other miscellaneous fees
  • Review and process applications for new water, sewer, and trash service
  • Prepare various correspondence and mail
  • Perform various research and finance support functions, including data entry, filing, and scanning
