About The Position

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is seeking an experienced candidate for a Finance Analyst/Senior Finance Analyst position within the Personnel Payments Section of its Administrative Expenditures and Control Division (FINAX). This division is responsible for overseeing all Fund payments and receipts related to administrative and capital budgets, as well as externally provided capacity development agreements. Key activities include procurement of goods and services, payroll and staff benefits execution, tax allowances, pension benefits, and travel services. For the capital budget, this involves managing information technology projects, building construction, and other facilities. The division also monitors changes in U.S. tax legislation and their potential impact on the Staff Retirement Plan and the Fund's Tax Allowance system. The role is specifically assigned to the Pension Unit, focusing on retiree information, payment administration, calculations, and ensuring compliance with relevant plans and policies. The selected candidate will also be involved in system enhancements, change management, and customer service for staff and pensioners. Depending on needs, the candidate may also be assigned to other units within the division.

Requirements

  • University degree, preferably in accounting, business administration, finance or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience preferred; or a minimum of two years of experience at Grade A05.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, strong analytical skills.

  • Previous experience with working on pension operations.
  • Knowledge of defined benefit/defined contribution pension schemes.
  • Proficient knowledge of standard data and analytical software tools.
  • Currently residing in the Washington DC metro area.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience and knowledge of international organizations’ pension plans, payroll, benefit administration, taxation of retirement benefits, and related accounting and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Peoplesoft, Workday, and ServiceNow.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting and controlling personnel and administrative payments.
  • Performing audit, reconciliation, and analytics work.
  • Providing advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributing to new policy and procedure development.
  • Participating in system and process enhancement and transformation initiatives.
  • Establishing and maintaining retiree information and administering payments to retirees.
  • Performing calculations and recording of pension benefit payments, including cost of living allowance adjustments, special allowance payments, and deductions.
  • Ensuring all payments comply with the Staff Retirement Plan (SRP), Supplemental Retirement Benefit Plan (SRBP), and other established policies and procedures.
  • Recording and validating pensioner banking information.
  • Preparing and reconciling electronic pension payment files and monitoring payments.
  • Updating pensioner contact information.
  • Performing audit functions on annual pension verification (Certificate of Existence) forms.
  • Tracking and reporting on the status of submissions and sending reminders.
  • Processing operations such as running the biweekly funding report and calculating interest for separating staff.
  • Preparing accounting journals, accruals, and assisting with the year-end closing of administrative accounts.
  • Coordinating and conducting the calendar year-end tax residency certification process.
  • Providing customer service for staff and pensioners regarding pension benefits, tax reporting, and ad-hoc inquiries.
  • Assisting with change management and outreach activities with retirees.
  • Participating in system enhancements, including requirements gathering, design, documentation, and testing.
