About The Position

Leggett & Platt is seeking a Filter Press Operator at its Merit Steel location in Kouts, Indiana. The role operates and maintains a filter press system that separates and removes impurities from an industrial process. The schedule is 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on a 2-2-3 rotation: Week 1, work Monday and Tuesday, off Wednesday and Thursday, and work Friday through Sunday; Week 2, off Monday and Tuesday, work Wednesday and Thursday, and off Friday through Sunday.

The operator starts up and shuts down the filter press system, monitors and operates sulfate and recovery tanks, operates and maintains pumps, responds to process alarms, performs equipment upkeep, calibrates pH meters and logs readings, and cleans the filter press and assigned work areas. The role also performs tasks assigned by the Supervisor, with safety as the top priority.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience operating machinery in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to stay organized and multitask.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Commitment to following established procedures to prevent mistakes and maintain high standards.

Responsibilities

• Start up and shut down the filter press system.
• Monitor and operate sulfate and recovery tanks.
• Operate and maintain pumps.
• Promptly acknowledge, assess, and respond to system and process alarms to ensure safety and continuity.
• Maintain equipment, including cleaning the refrigeration coil, de-sludging, and refilling and charging acid tubs.
• Calibrate pH meters and log readings.
• Clean the filter press and designated work areas.
• Perform tasks assigned by the Supervisor, prioritizing safety.
