About The Position

The Field Technician I works in the field for most of the day, collecting data accurately and on time at residential and commercial customer locations. The role assists with maintenance and repairs of water and wastewater systems and with creating or assisting with work orders. It also includes utility meter reading, service connections and disconnections, and general landscape maintenance.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle records.
Ability and willingness to work independently.
Ability to understand water systems and concepts.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to perform sustained physical labor, including heavy lifting and working above the head and below the feet.
Neat and clean appearance, courteous and friendly conduct with the general public, and willingness to be part of a team.
Must be available to work overtime and on-call as needed.

Nice To Haves

Entry-level; one or more years of experience in the water/wastewater, public works, maintenance, or servicing industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

Review service orders to identify locations where meter readings are needed.
Read water meters and enter readings in route logs.
Maintain required paperwork and logs in compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
Inspect meters and connections for defects, faults, and damage.
Under direct supervision, repair or replace broken water mains and service lines and maintain or assist with minor repairs to water and wastewater systems.
Communicate meter problems or incorrect readings to the Project Manager.
Operate a company vehicle to conduct meter readings on an assigned route.
Connect and disconnect utility services as directed.
Keep all data in the utility log book accurate and up to date.
Perform general landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming, cleanups, and pruning.
Perform other related duties as directed.
