Field Technician - MS - PUB
About The Position
The Field Technician I works in the field for most of the day, collecting data accurately and promptly from residential and commercial customer locations. The role also assists with maintenance and repairs of water and wastewater systems and with creating or assisting with work orders. The technician reviews service orders, reads water meters, maintains route logs and required records, inspects meters and connections, and reports meter problems or incorrect readings to the Project Manager. Under direct supervision, the technician repairs or replaces broken water mains and service lines and assists with minor system repairs. The position also includes operating a company vehicle, connecting and disconnecting utility services, and performing general landscape maintenance. Other related duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Records.
- Ability and willingness to work independently.
- Ability to understand water systems and concepts.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to perform sustained physical labor, including heavy lifting and working above the head and below the feet.
- Neat and clean appearance, courteous and friendly manner with the general public, and willingness to be part of a team.
- Availability to work overtime and on-call as needed.
Nice To Haves
- Entry-level experience; 1+ years in the water/wastewater, public works, maintenance, or servicing industry is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Review service orders to determine locations where meter readings need to be performed.
- Read water meters and enter data in route logs.
- Maintain required paperwork and logs in compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
- Inspect meters and connections to identify defects, faults, and damage.
- Under direct supervision, repair and/or replace broken water mains and service lines and assist with minor water and wastewater system repairs.
- Communicate meter problems or incorrect readings to the Project Manager.
- Operate a company vehicle to conduct meter readings for the assigned route.
- Connect and disconnect utility services as directed.
- Keep all data in the utility log book accurate and up to date.
- Perform general landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming, cleanups, and pruning.
- Perform other related duties as directed.
