About The Position

T. Baker Smith is seeking an entry-level Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Field Technician looking for an opportunity to work on a team in the field using the latest utility designating, locating and vacuum excavation equipment and technology.

Requirements

Ability to perform physical movements and tractions, commensurate with operating heavy tools and equipment.
Possess basic computer skills and able to learn and understand new software.
Ability to operate surveying instruments, boats, airboats, GPS, all-terrain vehicles, and other equipment necessary to obtain survey data.
Attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Communicating with the Project Manager, project team, and client field representative.
Selecting and applying appropriate geophysical prospecting equipment to accurately designate underground utility layouts.
Operating and driving a vacuum excavation truck and performing test holes to expose utilities.
Completing documentation, which includes record keeping and simple mathematics legibly and accurately.
Selecting and implementing proper maintenance of traffic signage.
Communicating and coordinating with utility company representatives.
Representing and communicating on behalf of T. Baker Smith and crew when encountering third parties in the field.
Completing daily job safety analysis forms.
Inspecting assigned equipment to ensure proper working conditions prior to use.
Identifying and reporting any equipment failure on work order maintenance form.
Performing work in a safe and efficient manner.
Reporting incidents to the appropriate personnel and completing incident reports as required.
Monitoring work conditions and responsibly using stop work authority.
