About The Position

Pacific Backflow is seeking an ambitious Field Technician Trainee to join their growing team. With over 40 years in business, a steady client base, and consistent work, this is an opportunity to learn and grow within a close-knit team. The role involves training in the testing, repair, replacement, and installation of backflow prevention assemblies, working in various conditions and terrains. After training, the employee will be part of an on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend service.

Requirements

Willing to become certified as a Backflow Tester, or already possess a current certification.
Willing to work overtime when needed.
Consistently punctual and ready for work.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Mechanically inclined and skilled at troubleshooting and repairing.
Current California driver's license and clean driving record.
Good communication skills with customers.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to lift, kneel, squat, and work in difficult terrain and awkward physical positions.
High school diploma or GED.
Must have or be willing to obtain backflow tester certification from a recognized agency within the first 90 days of training.

Responsibilities

Testing backflow prevention assemblies according to required procedures using proper tools, gauges, and equipment.
Diagnosing and repairing backflow prevention assemblies according to procedure and best practices using hand tools, pipe wrenches, power tools, lubricants, and other necessary equipment.
Reviewing daily job schedules, instructions, and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
Traveling to assigned job locations to perform necessary work.
Safely operating a motor vehicle in all weather and traffic conditions.
Properly completing backflow test report forms according to water district requirements and producing detailed work reports.
Communicating with operations staff and the front office via phone, email, SMS, forms, and other appropriate methods.
Excavating installation areas (primarily with hand tools), observing job conditions, and understanding existing plumbing to establish pipe installation sequences.
Assembling pipe sections and fittings using plastic solvent, soldering, or pressing equipment.
Connecting to existing above-ground and underground water piping systems and extending piping to connect backflow prevention assemblies and plumbing.
Measuring, cutting, and threading pipe using hand and power tools or machines.
Installing theft deterrent devices including cages, valve guards, chains, and locks.
Working with concrete, wood, and other materials to achieve customer-promised results.
Removing and properly disposing of debris.
Safely lifting and carrying bulky items weighing up to and in excess of 100 pounds, understanding and implementing team lift concepts when appropriate.
Monitoring and maintaining tools and inventory on the service vehicle to ensure operational consistency.
Performing other duties as assigned and as needed to accomplish the mission.
