About The Position

Cooper Equipment Rentals is seeking customer-oriented, motivated individuals to join their professional team as Field Technicians specializing in Heat Equipment. This role involves installing, inspecting, and repairing gas equipment, regulators, and heating units. Technicians will troubleshoot equipment issues on-site, in the shop, or over the phone, and perform necessary tests, replacements, and certifications. The position requires performing annual inspections, service, and repairs on construction heaters, and advising clients on safety features and maintenance. Accurate documentation of all service and repair information, along with daily hazard assessments and equipment checks, are key responsibilities. The role may also involve delivering/picking up small equipment and assisting with loading/unloading. Customer service is paramount, and adherence to all company health and safety policies is mandatory. The work environment shifts seasonally, with more field work in winter and more shop work in summer.

Requirements

  • Licensed Gas Fitter with G1 or G2 ticket.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license with a clean or satisfactory driver’s abstract (no more than three demerit points).
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; ideally working with temporary construction heaters.
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs.
  • Considerable knowledge of designing and installing temporary heating systems at construction sites using natural gas, propane and diesel equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of temporary heaters; direct and indirect fired, hydronic, electrical etc.
  • Strong knowledge of the safety regulations, codes and practices regarding LP/NG use, equipment servicing, permitting and installation at construction sites.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, service and repair a variety of heating equipment in the shop or field.
  • Willingness to participate in job-specific training.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to converse with a wide variety of customers and internal resources in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required, and to work on an on-call rotation (primarily in winter months).
  • Flexibility; must be comfortable with managing and adapting to multiple changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Eagerness to continuously learn and stay up to date with emerging technology.
  • Currently residing in Canada and legally entitled to work.

Nice To Haves

  • CH-SM2 or CH-SM1 (Construction Heater Operator) certification is an asset (training will be provided if successful candidate does not have certification).
  • Class 3/DZ license is an asset - you will be required to provide a copy of your updated driver’s abstract upon request.
  • AC knowledge and certification is an asset.
  • Ability to read/understand building and mechanical plans, job specifications and other technical documents is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, repair gas equipment, regulators and heating units.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems both on customers' jobsites, in the shop or over the phone.
  • Test, replace or certify defective equipment as required.
  • Perform annual inspections, service & repairs on construction heaters.
  • Advise clients on safety features and maintenance of gas units.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document all service and repair information.
  • Complete daily hazard assessment(s) on-site and/or in the shop.
  • Complete a daily circle check on forklift and/or service truck (when utilized).
  • Deliver/pick-up small equipment from site as required.
  • Assist with loading/unloading equipment as required.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service in all interactions with customers.
  • Adhere to all company health and safety policies.
  • Communicate with customers over the phone to trouble shoot equipment problems as needed.
  • Work primarily in the field during winter months/heat season, and primarily in the shop during summer months.
