About The Position

Atlas is seeking a Field Technician 1 to join our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team in Atlanta, Georgia. This role is for an entry level field technician who is willing to learn field processes and procedures in order to complete SUE field work for DOT and utility companies. This role requires that the applicant be able to learn how to drive and operate an Atlas vacuum excavation truck that is used to collect Quality Level A SUE information. This role can provide growth for the applicant to be promoted to crew lead role as a SUE field technician 2 with training and demonstrated technical proficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with team members, clients, and office staff.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and survey standards.
  • Ability to work overtime, travel as needed, and support projects in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in varying terrain.
  • Commitment to working safely and following all company safety policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior SUE experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including occasional assignments lasting up to two weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain information and direction from office staff and work in the field to locate underground utilities using a variety of methods.
  • Assist SUE and survey field crews in performing utility surveys, field investigations, and utility locating activities to identify underground utilities within project areas.
  • Learn to operate and maintain field equipment, including vacuum excavation equipment used to collect Quality Level A utility information, while ensuring the accuracy of field work and calculations.
  • Prepare complete and accurate field notes, utility sketches, and documentation of locating procedures and results for office use.
  • Interface effectively with office staff and field team members to communicate project information, support schedules and budgets, and complete utility locating projects efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain crew vehicles and equipment and adhere to all company safety procedures while working outdoors in varying conditions and travel as required to support project needs.
