About The Position

As a Field Tech I/Diesel Mechanic, you play a crucial role in keeping our customers’ equipment running at peak performance. You’ll be out in the field diagnosing and repairing everything from small engines to heavy agricultural machinery, using your mechanical expertise to solve complex problems on-site. This role demands professionalism, clear communication, and the ability to work independently, while occasionally supporting shop repairs. You’ll represent the company directly to customers, ensuring every repair is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, making a real impact on their operations and success.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of diesel mechanic experience in a shop or field setting.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills, with the ability to read schematics and technical manuals.
  • Proven knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of John Deere equipment.
  • Ability to assemble, maintain, and perform field service functions independently.
  • Must own and maintain a full set of tools.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic software and computers for equipment repair and analysis.
  • Strong customer service skills with a professional, customer-first attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management.
  • Ability to work a varying schedule/shift and respond to after-hours calls as needed.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • 4–6 years of direct experience servicing John Deere equipment.
  • Prior field service experience with agricultural or construction equipment.
  • Familiarity with dealership service processes and customer-facing roles.
  • Technical certifications or training in diesel or heavy equipment repair

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair small engines, agricultural, turf, and construction equipment.
  • Perform field service repairs safely, efficiently, and professionally.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and software to identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain strong communication with customers, providing updates and support throughout repairs.
  • Ensure all work meets high-quality standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Accurately complete service documentation, repair orders, and time logs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work vehicle, as well as an inventory of necessary tools and parts.
  • Collaborate with parts and service teams to ensure timely job completion.
  • Occasionally perform repairs in the shop as needed.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and professional representative of the company in the field.
