About The Position

KLS Earthworks & Environmental is seeking an experienced Field Surveyor to join our team, playing a critical role in supporting the success of our construction projects. The Field Surveyor is responsible for performing surveying and layout services on active construction sites to support earthworks, underground, and site development projects. This role requires a combination of technical surveying expertise, equipment operation, and collaboration with project teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a safety-conscious attitude, and the ability to work in diverse field conditions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of field surveying experience in civil construction, earthworks, or environmental projects.
  • Experience working with Topcon Total Stations (including Robotic Total Station) and advanced GNSS receivers.
  • Proficient with 3D-MC2 and machine control systems.
  • Experience with GNSS dozer calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Strong data collection and management skills using survey software and data controllers.
  • Proven experience working in varied terrain and weather conditions.
  • Safety-focused with the ability to effectively communicate hazards, layouts, and plans to site teams.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Canadian Civil and Commercial UAV License considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conventional and GPS surveys using a variety of survey equipment, including Topcon Total Stations (including Robotic Total Stations), Commercial UAV and advanced GNSS receivers.
  • Conduct topographic, construction layout, as-built, and volumetric surveys.
  • Complete machine control support, including GNSS dozer calibration, troubleshooting, and data transfer.
  • Collect and manage accurate survey data, ensuring quality control and accuracy in all field measurements.
  • Provide stakeout and layout services for grading, excavation, and underground utilities installations.
  • Reporting to the Survey Manager and working closely with project managers, foremen, equipment operators, and other site personnel to ensure layout work aligns with project requirements and design plans
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and records, and assist in preparing survey reports.
  • Adhere to KLS safety policies and actively participate in site safety meetings and hazard assessments.
  • Work safely in all weather conditions and terrains, ensuring effective communication with the site team to maintain a safe work environment.
