Field Supervisor - Industrial Hygiene

TITAN Environmental Solutions, Inc.San Diego, CA
$110,000 - $135,000Onsite

About The Position

This role is designed for an experienced industrial hygienist who has outgrown a technician role but prefers hands-on field work over a desk job. As a Field Supervisor, you will step up in title, pay, and influence without taking on management responsibilities like budgets or headcount planning. Your primary focus will be on-site problem-solving, coaching, providing feedback, conducting quality reviews, and serving as the technical expert for the team and clients. Titan Environmental Solutions, a collaborative environmental consulting firm in Southern California, offers this role to provide experienced technicians and industrial hygienists with a clear path to respected field leadership positions without forcing them into pure management tracks. The position emphasizes variety, flexibility, and the rewarding aspects of leadership through coaching and mentorship, allowing for continued technical growth towards certifications like CIH.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on field experience in industrial hygiene, asbestos, lead, or environmental consulting.
  • Strong, natural people skills — approachable, patient, and direct.
  • A genuine interest in coaching, mentoring, and developing less experienced staff.
  • Comfort with variety and change, adapting to different daily, site, and client situations.
  • Sharp eye for quality and process, with the follow-through to fix issues.
  • Valid California Driver's License and ability to travel to project sites regularly.
  • Cal/OSHA Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC)
  • Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST)
  • Lead Inspector/Assessor Certification (CDPH-accredited)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or progress toward CIH certification.
  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification.
  • Mold assessment credential (e.g., CMC, CIEC) or moisture intrusion experience.
  • Prior experience training, mentoring, or directly supervising apprentices or junior field staff.
  • Experience working across multiple California Air District jurisdictions.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure apprentices, interns, and field technicians have the necessary supplies, PPE, and equipment before each job.
  • Proactively track inventory and restock to prevent on-site shortages.
  • Keep sampling and monitoring equipment organized, calibrated, and ready for deployment.
  • Regularly and consistently be present on job sites, visible, available, and engaged.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for field staff needing assistance with questions, judgment calls, or technical second opinions.
  • Adapt to the specific needs of each site, client, and team member, providing hands-on support where it's most impactful.
  • Audit field work for quality, including sampling technique, documentation accuracy, chain of custody, photo logs, and daily field notes.
  • Conduct regular field reviews and performance check-ins with technicians, apprentices, and interns.
  • Verify that Titan's procedures and protocols are being followed in practice.
  • Identify recurring quality or process issues early and work directly with staff to correct them.
  • Deliver real-time, in-the-field feedback to staff.
  • Lead hands-on training for new and developing field staff, reinforcing proper technique, protocol, and professionalism.
  • Support technicians and apprentices working towards their IH, asbestos, and lead certifications.
  • Coach through training or performance issues directly, patiently, and constructively.
  • Serve as the go-to subject matter expert for field staff on technical, regulatory, and procedural questions.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and translate them into practical guidance for the field team.
  • Represent Titan's technical standards and judgment when interacting with clients or building occupants on-site.
  • Model safe work practices on every site.
  • Immediately address unsafe conditions or practices and coach the team through corrections.
  • Reinforce proper PPE use, exposure controls, and Titan's safety culture through daily field leadership.

Benefits

  • Certification renewal fees covered (CAC, CSST, Lead Inspector/Assessor, OSHA refreshers)
  • Paid time for required annual refresher trainings (AHERA, lead, etc.)
  • Respirator medical clearance and fit testing fully covered
  • Company-provided, well-maintained PPE and calibrated sampling/monitoring equipment
  • Mileage/vehicle allowance for travel between job sites
