About The Position

GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear is offering an internship starting in January 2027 for students passionate about innovation and electrifying/decarbonizing the world. This internship provides an opportunity to learn about the GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy business, allowing both the company and the student to explore potential career paths. Field Engineering interns will work onsite with customers on legacy fleet reactors, providing immediate value as part of outage teams to safely, effectively, and efficiently service reactors and return them to operation.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program with an engineering or engineering technology discipline as your primary major.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% to domestic plant sites.
  • Must be able to be granted unescorted access at a commercial nuclear power plant.
  • Must possess a valid US driver's license.
  • Must be willing to submit to a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Must be able to read and understand equipment manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb 10 flights of stairs twice per day.
  • Ability to pass respirator fit test and physical.
  • Ability to pass Fitness for Duty requirements and site security requirements to obtain unescorted access.
  • Ability to work under high stress conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to work in radiation-controlled areas and radioactively contaminated areas.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined by 8 USC § 1101(a)(2) and 8 USC § 1324b(a)(3).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (without rounding).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and/or experience with hands-on work.
  • Prior internship or co-op in manufacturing, industrial or field engineering environments.
  • Strong team and interpersonal skills, ability to work in project teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate technical problems in clear and simple terms.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Strong customer service mindset.
  • Ability to demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving, learning agility.

Responsibilities

  • Work with experienced Field Service Engineers in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Perform maintenance and inspection activities on Boiling Water Reactors.
  • Attend entry-level technical training.
  • Travel to domestic nuclear refueling outages.
  • Be assigned shorter duration projects at the Wilmington, NC site when not at outages.
  • Work as part of high-performance teams during outages to perform safe and error-free work for customers.

  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
