About The Position

Alberta Education supports students, parents, teachers and administrators from Early Childhood Services (ECS) through Grade 12. The Ministry provides funding to over 300 provincial school authorities for ECS to Grade 12, within the Financial Services and Capital Planning Division. The System Excellence Division, through its Field Services Branch, provides system level assurance that Alberta’s education landscape operates with integrity, compliance, and continuous improvement. The division oversees the monitoring, evaluation, and accreditation of independent schools, and charter schools, ensuring alignment with legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements. Through expert analysis, collaborative partnerships, and evidence based decision making, Field Services supports public confidence in Alberta’s education system while enabling high quality educational outcomes for children and students across the province.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by 4 (four) years related experience.
  • Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Nice To Haves

  • An active Alberta Teaching Certificate would be an asset.
  • Master’s Degree is an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of government strategic priorities, policy directions, and ministry business plan goals.
  • Overall operations of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 education system, including the management of numerous school authorities and schools
  • Knowledge of MS Officer Products primarily MS Word and Excel
  • Good understanding of Indigenous knowledge, traditions and cultures of FNMI people and applicable provincial legislation and regulations,
  • Experience working with independent schools, charter schools’ authorities.
  • Facilitation, mediation and consensus building skills in complex and conflicting circumstances involving multiple people or organizations
  • Experience in managing grants, contracts, or RFP processes would be a strong asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead province wide monitoring, evaluation, and accreditation processes for independent schools to ensure compliance with legislation and standards.
  • Coordinate charter school evaluations, amendments, renewals, commencements, and related action plans.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert providing assurance, guidance, and expert advice to ministry leadership, school authorities, and stakeholders.
  • Review and analyze Education Plans, Annual Education Results Reports, and Annual Operating Plans within Alberta’s funding and assurance framework.
  • Support Independent school authorities through the Annual Operating Program declarations.
  • Prepare high quality briefing materials, action request responses, and correspondence for senior leaders and the Minister.
  • Manage grant and contract agreements, including RFP development, evaluation, and contract administration.
  • Research and analyze complex and sensitive issues, providing clear, evidence based recommendations to decision makers.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and improvement of provincial education policies, regulations, and assurance processes.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal partners, education stakeholders, and government and sector organizations.
  • Support branch and sector operational planning, continuous improvement initiatives, and system excellence priorities.
