Field Service Trainer (Commerical Transit)
About The Position
Field Service Trainer Job Summary: The Field Service Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and continuously improving comprehensive technical training programs that support ENC field technicians, service partners, and transit agency maintenance teams. This position serves as a subject matter expert across ENC diesel, CNG, and battery-electric platforms and plays a critical role in reducing repeat warranty failures, improving first-time fix rates, and standardizing technician certification levels across the organization. The Field Service Trainer supports both internal and external customers through structured classroom instruction, hands-on field coaching, technical documentation development, and collaboration with Engineering and Warranty teams.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of heavy-duty commercial vehicle service experience (transit bus preferred)
- Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting experience
- Proficiency with diagnostic software (Cummins INSITE, Allison DOC, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
- Valid Driver License
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to travel 25%–50% nationwide
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in technical instruction or training role
- Experience with diesel, CNG, and battery-electric bus platforms
- Familiarity with J1939 CAN networks (250k/500k)
- Experience developing training materials and LMS content
- CDL or willingness to obtain within 6 months
- Technical writing experience
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical training curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
- Create PowerPoint presentations, hands-on lab exercises, testing materials, and reference guides.
- Maintain training content within ENC’s Learning Management System (LMS).
- Deliver classroom and practical shop training nationwide.
- Conduct technician skill assessments and certification evaluations.
- Support ENC technician certification levels (Level 1, 2, 3, Senior).
- Provide advanced diagnostic instruction for electrical, multiplex, and high-voltage systems.
- Support new vehicle platform rollouts and emerging technologies.
- Partner with Engineering and Warranty to identify repeat failure trends and develop targeted training.
- Develop technical bulletins and troubleshooting documentation.
- Improve Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and reduce repeat warranty claims.
- Provide customer orientation during new fleet deliveries.
- Support sales demonstrations and field deployments when required.
- Prepare training reports and provide feedback to leadership.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with travel and expense policies.
