About The Position

Palmer Manufacturing & Supply, Inc., a U.S.-based leader in the design and production of no-bake foundry and industrial processing equipment, is seeking an industrial Service Technician. This role involves on-site customer installations and repairs, requiring travel within and outside the United States, sometimes on short notice. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical background, familiarity with electrical wiring of components (motors, pumps, switches), and knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics. The ability to troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical machine operations is essential. Candidates who enjoy hands-on assembly of machines when not performing field service will be highly valued. Our Mechanical Assemblers are responsible for assembling OEM machines using schematics and drawings.

Requirements

  • Strong level of mechanical skills
  • Basic electrical knowledge to wire components
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics
  • Ability to operate shop equipment and power tools
  • Ability to use and provide personal hand tools
  • Ability to work independently or with a team, with limited supervision
  • Ability to safely drive and operate a forklift; willingness to train required
  • 3-5 years of experience in a maintenance or mechanic position
  • MS Outlook and Word experience
  • Must be trainable and willing to learn
  • Stand/walk for extended periods
  • Navigate stairs & ladders multiple times per day
  • Bend; kneel; twist; work overhead
  • Ability to lift, carry, & lower 50 lbs.
  • Work at heights
  • Work in compact spaces
  • Must wear safety toe shoes and safety glasses in designated areas
  • Must be reliable and have a good work ethic
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills and communicate professionally and effectively
  • Must possess an unrestricted driver’s license & driving record which meets our insurance requirements for coverage and have reliable transportation to work
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to obtain a passport

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced electrical knowledge preferred
  • Experience operating shop equipment and power tools preferred
  • Experience operating a forklift preferred

Responsibilities

  • Travel (25%-50%), sometimes on short notice, to service customer needs including startup or repair of equipment.
  • Travel from 2 days to 1 week is common to customer plants in the U.S. and Canada.
  • The travel percentage fluctuates monthly based on customer demands.
  • Knowledge of machine controls and ability to wire and calibrate control devices using shop drawings and manufacturer’s instructions.
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting using Allen Bradley RSLogix platforms.
  • Assembly of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical machine components including piping and wiring based on schematics and drawings, using power tools or hand tools as required.
  • Assist Service Team with installations and repairs, including travel to customer sites.
  • Commissioning of new equipment at customer site.
  • Use drawings, sketches, blueprints, hand tools, power tools, & shop equipment to complete all phases of the product.
  • Work with production staff to complete jobs on time.
  • Ability & willingness to wear a respirator and train to paint equipment if needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors regarding material inventory, shop supply inventory and product scheduling.
  • Willingness to help in other areas as directed.
