About The Position

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Field Service Technician to support the CenterPoint Gas Meter Project. This independent, field-based role involves replacing residential gas meters, conducting safety inspections and leak detection, and interacting with utility customers throughout the service area. The company provides required training, Operator Qualification (OQ) certifications, uniforms, equipment, a vehicle, and technology. Training is approximately six weeks. The project is expected to last more than two years.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), which is run every six months.
Ability to pass a background check.
Ability to pass a DOT PHMSA-compliant drug screen.
Ability to pass pre-employment assessments.
Ability to successfully complete OQ training, field evaluation, and certification.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in the field.

Nice To Haves

Previous natural gas utility experience.
Previous gas meter installation or repair experience.
Clean driving record.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Enjoyment of outdoor work.

Responsibilities

Read and remove existing residential gas meters.
Install or replace Honeywell gas meters and regulators.
Build and modify gas meter loops.
Perform final meter testing and operational checks.
Conduct gas leak testing with company-provided combustible gas indicators.
Identify hazardous or abnormal operating conditions and repair gas leaks as required.
Communicate professionally with utility customers.
Shut down and relight residential gas appliances.
Document installations and field activity using a company-provided handheld device.
