About The Position

Kimley-Horn’s Natural Gas team in Charlotte, North Carolina, is seeking an experienced Civil Designer/CAD Technician to support natural gas distribution, pipeline, and metering and regulation station projects. The role involves developing and quality-checking drawings and plans using Civil 3D, supporting pipeline integrity management and station design, and maintaining project drawings and drawing databases. The technician will apply engineering and design principles, suggest design improvements, and may guide or train other CAD/design staff. The position also involves developing familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of relevant CAD/design experience.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience designing and working with pressure pipe networks in Civil 3D.
• Detail-oriented, professional attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively.
• Strong work ethic and desire to learn.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Experience supporting utility, pipeline, natural gas, or similar linear infrastructure projects preferred.
• CADWorx experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and quality-check drawings and plans for natural gas distribution and pipeline projects using Civil 3D.
• Develop pressure pipe networks and associated utility and pipeline design drawings.
• Support metering and regulation station designs.
• Support pipeline integrity management projects.
• Apply engineering and design principles and suggest design changes or improvements.
• Maintain project drawings and drawing databases.
• May provide guidance and training to other CAD/design staff.
• Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards.
