This position is based out of our Acheson, Alberta head office, with regular travel across North America to support our customers. PURPOSE: The Field Service Technician at Sky Eye Measurement (SEM) inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and commissions SEM-manufactured equipment. This role ensures mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The technician serves as SEM’s field representative, supporting clients and maximizing equipment uptime and performance.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of relevant field experience in the technical competencies listed above
  • Journeyperson Electrical, Instrumentation, or Millwright certification (Red Seal preferred)
  • Ability to pass pre-access testing, including drug and alcohol screening
  • Valid passport required with the ability to obtain and maintain clearance for cross-border travel (including admissibility to the U.S.)
  • Satisfactory criminal record check may be required
  • Satisfactory credit check may be required due to company-issued credit cards
  • Ability to temporarily cover work-related expenses on a personal credit card (up to approximately $10,000) pending reimbursement

Nice To Haves

  • Petroleum Mechanic certification (PM1/PM3) considered an asset
  • Railway and bulk liquid / LPG transloading experience considered a major asset

Responsibilities

  • Install pumps, piping, tubing, valves, instruments, and electrical components on SEM-manufactured equipment
  • Perform equipment layout, mechanical assembly, and system integration in both field and shop environments
  • Ensure installations meet design specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on: Centrifugal pumps, Positive displacement (PD) pumps, Flow meters and associated instrumentation
  • Inspect and service mechanical, electrical, and control systems to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Identify and address wear, performance issues, and potential failures
  • Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild pumps, flow meters, and valves
  • Replace seals, bearings, internals, and critical components as required
  • Diagnose failures and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence
  • Lead and support commissioning and start-up of SEM transloading units
  • Perform system checks, functional testing, and verification of control logic and interlocks
  • Support FAT (factory acceptance testing) and field start-up activities
  • Train clients on operation and best practices of SEM equipment
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance and reduce downtime
  • Troubleshoot HMI/PLC systems (e.g., Toptech, Siemens), including I/O verification and signal tracing
  • Maintain and troubleshoot control systems, interlocks, and E-stop circuits
  • Work with 24VDC, 120/240VAC, and 480VAC systems, including motors, VFDs, and instrumentation
  • Maintain and troubleshoot grounding and overfill systems (e.g., Scully, Dixon)
  • Diagnose faults in probes, rack controllers, and safety interlocks
  • Comply with all federal, provincial, and client safety regulations and standards
  • Complete OSHAs/FLHAs and required site documentation prior to work
  • Actively participate in SEM safety inspections, initiatives, and reporting
  • Follow LOTO procedures when servicing equipment
  • Ensure equipment meets operational and regulatory requirements
  • Complete detailed daily service reports (DSRs)
  • Communicate deficiencies, repair status, and recommendations clearly
  • Provide feedback to engineering/manufacturing for design and operational improvements
  • Share lessons learned and best practices with colleagues and clients
