This role supports the CF Rail Services team, which specializes in high-quality railcar repairs and maintenance across North America. The Field Service Technician will deliver exceptional customer service by performing onsite mobile repairs at customer facilities, ensuring quality workmanship, meeting AAR Requirements, and providing accurate industry-standard formatted billing. Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Successfully pass the following courses with an 80% or higher score coordinated by CF Rail Management: AAR Interchange Rules, Freight Car Inspection Overview, Basics of Railroad Wheels, FRA Railroad Safety Appliance Standards (Condensed Course), Coupler & Draft Systems course, Guide to Freight Car Trucks course, Body and Truck Side Bearing Gaging and Adjustment Course
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and BRC generation software/shop operating system
  • Ability to deliver high level of customer service via phone and face to face interaction

  • Highly effective communication skills verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English language
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Medically certified to wear a respirator
  • Able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to operate welding equipment
  • Ability to operate electrical and pneumatic tools
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (Cranes, Jacks)
  • Ability to operate Forklifts, Mobile Service Trucks, Boom Lifts
  • Required valid driver’s license and ability to drive Company vehicles when necessary
  • Ability to travel within established 200-mile region
  • Ability to travel for an extended period of time

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by providing onsite mobile repairs at customer facilities
  • Ensure quality workmanship, meeting AAR Requirements
  • Provide accurate industry standard formatted billing
  • Successfully complete, perform, and maintain the Field Service Apprentice job functions
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Meet the requirements and pass CFRS’ welding procedures (3/4" plate - all position FCAW)
  • Possess knowledge of AAR Job Codes and associated data field requirements
  • Properly use AAR Rule 1 and various inspection gages
  • Perform trouble-shooting diagnostics at customer locations based on defect symptoms reported
  • Be NDE qualified based on operational needs (BT, VT,PT,MP,RVI,UTT)
  • Have documented training to set up and operate or drive equipment such as, but not limited to: forklift, man lift, crane, back hoe, skid loader, hoist or hydraulic boom
  • Successfully complete this position's “Education/Formal Training” requirements
  • Wear PPE in appropriate areas
  • Act to support the interests of the department and organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the successful achievement of departmental and company objectives
