Under the direction of the Drives Service Manager, a Field Service Technician provides technical onsite and offsite support and expertise in response to a variety of site work requests. Requests can include but are not limited to commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and other technical problems encountered by users of ABB drives and systems. Field Service Technicians work hand in hand with Field Operations and Management to provide successful outcomes for both internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in technical field and 3 years of relevant experience or High school diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant experience or military education/experience required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization, from field technicians to senior management.
  • Ability read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to travel 70% of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Medium Voltage drives and power electronics
  • Knowledge of motors, transformers, switchgear, and industrial communication protocols
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical documentation
  • Previous Field Service experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair of ABB of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs.)
  • Carry out preparatory work regarding spare parts, testing of tools and equipment, and documentation as required.
  • Submit detailed, and comprehensive service reports in a timely manner and follow up when needed.
  • Coordinate activities with related groups to most efficiently achieve objectives to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively and present information to top management, customers, vendors, and other employees of the organization.
  • Participate proactively in contributing feedback regarding product quality issues to reduce warranty costs.
