Field Service Technician
About The Position
The Field Service Technician performs on-site programming and commissioning of lighting control and building control systems within the MD, DC, and VA territories. Projects range from simple stand-alone systems to complex network systems to hospitality to architainment lighting, as well as IoT systems, encompassing controls outside of the normal lighting scope. A day in the life of a Field Service Technician may include conducting pre-installation calls and/or visits with electrical contractors and additional follow-up calls or meetings as required for successful completion of the project. This role involves travelling to job sites in various phases of construction across the MD, DC, and VA territories to examine installation of hardware and testing equipment. The technician will technically train customers at all levels of the construction process, including contractors and end-users, on the use and maintenance of the lighting and building control systems installed in a tactful, technically proficient, service-oriented manner. Programming equipment, either on job sites or remotely, as dictated by the project needs, and contacting manufacturer’s technical support as needed for guidance on system intricacies or complex problems are key responsibilities. The role also includes documenting and maintaining project hardware, software, firmware, and full system configuration, and providing technical support on our controls lines in support of pre-sale and post-sale activities. Reviewing controls designs to ensure components meet the specified functions and supporting in-office control system projects for Lighting Environments and Environments including research, installation, programming, adjustment, and/or configuration of components are also part of the job. Everyone is expected to step up and help when needed, so performing other duties as assigned is also a possibility.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- The ability and willingness to travel to job sites in the MD, DC, and VA areas
- A valid driver’s license and vehicle (Note: Your driving record may be subject to review.)
- Experience with lighting control systems, audio/visual building systems, IoT systems, and/or logic controller programming or commissioning
- The ability to read and understand technical and construction drawings
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- The physical ability to lift or carry packages of up to 50 pounds short distances, as well as the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and stoop for extended periods of time
Nice To Haves
- Prior field experience programming and commissioning lighting control and building control systems
- An associate degree or certifications in a relevant field, such as Lighting, Technical Theatre, or Electrical Engineering
- Experience with Bluebeam and AutoCAD
