About The Position

Rust Automation & Controls is seeking a motivated Field Service Technician to support customers across the Western United States. This role focuses on hands-on instrumentation service, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair while working independently in a variety of industrial environments and collaborating with internal service and management teams. Key objectives include: Providing reliable and professional field service support to customers, Applying strong technical aptitude to instrumentation, calibration, and repair activities, Supporting customer operations through responsive, high-quality service execution, Adapting to varying industrial environments and customer site requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
  • Demonstrated basic electrical and mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to use hand tools and electronic testing equipment
  • Strong computer proficiency and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Strong interpersonal and customer-facing communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Dependable, punctual, and accountable for assigned responsibilities
  • Curiosity and desire to learn and develop professionally
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work flexible schedules
  • Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in a technical field
  • Field service or industrial experience
  • Instrumentation training or apprenticeship experience
  • Calibration and/or metrology experience
  • Safety certifications or credentials
  • Knowledge of instrumentation systems

Responsibilities

  • Daily travel to a diverse customer base across multiple industrial environments
  • Applying instrumentation knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, and service equipment
  • Successful completion and application of apprenticeship-level instrumentation training
  • Adapting to customer-specific safety, operational, and environmental requirements
  • Performing hands-on troubleshooting, calibration, and repair activities
  • Utilizing hand tools and electronic testing equipment to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Maintaining professionalism, safety compliance, and quality standards in the field
  • Regional travel within the following states: UT, CA, CO, WY, NV, ID, MT, ND, HI
