About The Position

Xylem is seeking an Elite Field Service Technician – Controls to provide field service support for industrial and commercial control systems at water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout the United States and Canada. This role is heavily focused on controls, including wiring, unwiring, troubleshooting, servicing, and commissioning control panels and related electrical systems. This is a 100% travel position (Monday–Friday), with technicians traveling by air and rental car to customer sites. Candidates may be based anywhere in the U.S. as long as they reside near a major airport. Xylem provides comprehensive on-the-job training from day one, and this position does not require participation in an on-call rotation or holiday work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5–7+ years of technical field service experience supporting industrial or commercial electrical and control systems.
  • Strong experience with wiring, unwiring, troubleshooting, and servicing industrial control panels.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems in an industrial environment.
  • Basic PLC controls knowledge and troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to work independently at customer sites.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and smart devices for reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate potential safety concerns.
  • Ability to obtain required customer clearances (TWIC, DISA, etc.) if needed.
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and DOT physical.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Water and wastewater industry experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Safely perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial and commercial control systems at customer facilities.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the field, working independently while delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot, service, and repair industrial control panels and electrical control systems.
  • Perform wiring, unwiring, component replacement, and field modifications on electrical and controls equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues using sound troubleshooting practices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and system testing on customer equipment.
  • Commission equipment and verify proper system operation following installation or repairs.
  • Support PLC-based control systems by identifying faults and assisting with startup activities.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, reports, and parts usage within company systems.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to customers and internal teams.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment while adhering to all company and customer safety requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced technicians as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through professional service and technical expertise.
