About The Position

The Sr. FS Technician � HVAC is a highly skilled field professional responsible for leading complex HVAC installations, advanced diagnostics, system commissioning, and high-level service activities across diverse customer environments. This role serves as a technical expert in the field, ensuring high-quality workmanship, safety compliance, and excellent customer service. The senior technician mentors junior technicians, collaborates closely with project leaders, and acts as a trusted resource for resolving the most challenging mechanical, electrical, and controls issues.

Requirements

  • Technical or vocational training in HVAC, mechanical systems, or electrical systems preferred.
  • Advanced coursework, factory training, or manufacturer certification considered an advantage.
  • Significant hands-on experience leading HVAC field service activities, including installation, diagnostics, repairs, and commissioning.
  • Extensive field experience in HVAC installation, commissioning, service, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Proven track record in resolving complex system issues requiring advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring junior technicians in the field.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical systems, refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, control systems, and applicable building codes.
  • Strong proficiency with diagnostic tools, advanced meters, airflow measurement devices, refrigerant analyzers, and controls troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field assignments independently and guide less experienced technicians.
  • Capable of resolving complex technical issues with minimal guidance, including system failures, performance deficiencies, and controls integration issues.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and operate in various field environments.
  • Valid driver�s license and clean driving record.
  • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety certification

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 required; EPA 608 Certification and advanced manufacturer, factory, or controls training strongly preferred.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification strongly preferred.
  • Additional manufacturer or controls-specific certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead installation, startup, commissioning, and service of complex HVAC systems, including packaged units, split systems, VFD-driven equipment, air distribution, and control interfaces.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis on mechanical, electrical, and control system failures, providing accurate diagnostics and corrective recommendations.
  • Verify and calibrate equipment performance through system testing, airflow measurement, refrigerant analysis, and electrical testing.
  • Oversee job site preparation, ensuring all tools, materials, safety protocols, and work plans are in place to support efficient operations.
  • Interpret and validate detailed HVAC drawings, schematics, electrical one-lines, and sequence-of-operation documents.
  • Serve as a field lead, providing direction, task allocation, and technical coaching to junior and mid-level technicians.
  • Partner with supervisors, engineers, project managers, and customers to resolve technical challenges, clarify system requirements, and ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Maintain detailed documentation, including diagnostic reports, commissioning checklists, service documentation, and corrective action logs.
  • Uphold and enforce strict safety, code, and compliance standards across job sites.
  • Engage directly with customers to communicate findings, explain system performance, and recommend improvements or preventative actions.
  • Provide input into continuous improvement of field procedures, safety practices, and installation standards.
  • Travel to various customer sites to support escalated service needs or high-priority projects.
  • Perform additional senior-level technical or operational tasks as required.
