About The Position

We are seeking a Field Service Controls Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, and service automated machinery at customer sites throughout the U.S., Canada, and occasional international locations. This highly technical, hands-on role serves as the primary on-site expert for electrical troubleshooting, PLC diagnostics, equipment startup, and customer support. The ideal candidate has strong electrical troubleshooting skills, experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, and enjoys traveling while solving complex automation challenges.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field; or 2–3 years of hands-on experience in automation, material handling, machine controls, or industrial equipment.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting experience required.
  • Experience working with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms.
  • Ability to navigate PLC programs and perform minor program edits (full PLC programming not required).
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and automated machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, noise levels, and industrial environments.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding or soldering experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and start up automated machinery at customer facilities.
  • Travel to customer sites to troubleshoot, repair, and service automated equipment.
  • Perform electrical diagnostics and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime.
  • Support machine commissioning and ensure systems meet performance specifications.
  • Provide remote technical support via phone and online troubleshooting tools.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms.
  • Navigate PLC programs and perform minor program modifications as needed.
  • Troubleshoot HMI systems and electrical control systems.
  • Collaborate with Engineering during machine runoffs, testing, and pre-shipment validation.
  • Identify equipment improvements and communicate field feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Train customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide professional technical support while building strong customer relationships.
  • Prepare detailed field service reports documenting repairs, findings, and recommendations.
  • Support junior technicians through technical guidance and mentoring.
