About The Position

The Field Sales Manager is responsible for driving strategy and delivering results within the sales branch. This role involves making recommendations to senior management on strategy and customer plans, utilizing data analysis and past experience to make informed decisions. The manager will direct value-added sales opportunities by implementing various strategies, including supply chain, engineering, supplier, or service excellence. A key aspect of the role is identifying and achieving sales branch goals, not just individual team goals. The position also requires managing and developing a sales team, fostering strong customer, supplier, and vendor relationships, and acting as a key leader within the branch to instill vision, create enthusiasm, and facilitate process improvements. This role is part of a sales compensation plan where a portion of the On-Target Earnings (OTE) is variable and tied to specific sales-related goals.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in related field/industry
  • Manages professional employees and/or supervisors or supervises large, complex technical or business support or production operations team(s)
  • Accountable for the performance and results of a team within own discipline or function
  • Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
  • Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance from senior manager
  • Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers
  • Accountable for the budget, performance and results of a medium-sized team or multiple small teams
  • Exercises full management authority, including performance reviews, pay decisions, recruitment, discipline, termination and other personnel actions
  • Addresses issues with impact beyond own team based on knowledge of related disciplines
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5-8 years of related experience with a 4 year degree; or 8 years and an advanced degree; or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive strategy and deliver results by making recommendations to General Manager/Sales Director on strategy and customer plans.
  • Make solid decisions on strategy and direction through data analysis and past experience.
  • Direct value-added sales opportunities by implementing supply chain, engineering, supplier, or service excellence strategies.
  • Identify and achieve sales branch goals.
  • Recruit, hire, and mentor sales staff.
  • Manage employee performance, ensuring teams are trained and have resources to deliver sales plans.
  • Coach and provide feedback to employees, developing high-potential sales representatives for future management roles.
  • Make difficult decisions when necessary and prepare development plans for employees.
  • Enhance manager relationships with key contacts by providing superior service and operation excellence.
  • Implement effective problem-solving techniques and communicate effectively with all levels (supplier, customer, vendor).
  • Attend reviews and meetings, and increase management presence at customer accounts to gain access to decision makers.
  • Act as a leader in the branch, instilling vision and creating enthusiasm to achieve goals.
  • Use data and analysis to make recommendations to the team and management.
  • Be responsible for budgeting and planning.
  • Facilitate implementation of process improvement based on data.
