About The Position

The Field Safety Supervisor monitors safety and health regulations and provides technical support to plant and personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations. This role works closely with staff in project management, human resources, legal, operations, and research and development. The supervisor provides technical safety and health support and information to field personnel and corporate personnel, enforces safety and health programs and policies, and identifies company safety training needs, developing and coordinating safety training programs. They participate in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses and operator training. The role supports corporate/Project Management in implementing engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards and supports field personnel in selecting appropriate personal protective equipment. The Field Safety Supervisor maintains the corporate safety library, promotes safety and health awareness through internal communications and training, and serves as a member of the executive environmental health and safety committee and the company occupational safety and health committee. They assist in the implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports, review process-operating procedures/records for safety and health considerations, and stay updated on federal and state occupational safety and health regulations, monitoring regulatory changes. The position provides technical support to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, audits practices and records of manufacturing plants, monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims, and reviews safety committee meeting minutes, inspection reports, and incident investigation reports, following up as necessary. The role also involves developing and coordinating Site Work Procedures (SWPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and other safety planning documents. While this position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, the management of the safety program includes directing safety-related activities, and the role serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety science, engineering or equivalent; and/or At least five years of previous experience in safety coordinator position or higher.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations.
  • Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
  • Provides technical support to corporate and field personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Audits practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims.
  • Reviews plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Reviews injury/illness and noninjury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Develop/coordinate SWPs, JSA, and other safety planning documents.
