About The Position

The Field Safety and Compliance Specialist is a field-based safety professional who promotes a proactive safety culture across Texas operations. The role provides coaching, regulatory oversight, audits, incident investigations, and training for drivers, terminal, maintenance, and operations employees while partnering with managers, dispatch, customers, and contractors to reduce risk and improve compliance. Frequent travel and active engagement at operating locations are required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of relevant transportation, fleet, fuel-distribution, safety, compliance, or industrial experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial-vehicle operations, strong communication and technology skills, and ability to independently conduct training, audits, investigations, and coaching.
  • Experience in petroleum transportation, terminals, hazardous materials, and the regulatory environment in which we operate.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, PHMSA, EPA, and TCEQ regulations.
  • Experience with regulatory audits and compliance programs.
  • Be comfortable working in the field and developing credibility with drivers, terminal managers, operations leaders, customers, and regulators.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), ASP, CSHO, CHMM, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible field leadership, safety guidance, coaching, toolbox talks, and program support across assigned terminals.
  • Address employee concerns and support incidents, spills, emergencies, and urgent compliance matters, including after hours.
  • Conduct facility, equipment, yard, loading-rack, customer-site, contractor, driver, and monthly customer audits, inspections, observations, and field evaluations.
  • Verify safe practices for PPE, loading/unloading, product verification, grounding and bonding, hose connections, backing, railroad crossings, spill prevention, and emergency response; correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
  • Deliver orientation, regional and annual compliance training, and monthly safety meetings covering DOT/FMCSA, hazardous materials, HAZWOPER, H2S, OSHA, forklift, fire-extinguisher, defensive-driving/Smith System, incident-reporting, emergency-response, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain qualification records, evaluate effectiveness, and update training materials, SOPs, bulletins, and presentations.
  • Investigate accidents, spills, contamination, injuries, near misses, property damage, complaints, and environmental releases using Root Cause Analysis and available evidence, including Samsara records.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations, track corrective actions, verify effectiveness, and identify preventive measures.
  • Support compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, hazardous-materials regulations, customer requirements, and company policies.
  • Verify driver qualifications, Hours of Service, vehicle inspections, shipping papers, placarding, and hazardous-materials transportation requirements.
  • Assist with customer and contractor audits, safety meetings, regulatory inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Maintain company-system records for inspections, audits, training, investigations, corrective actions, coaching, observations, certifications, and compliance files.
  • Prepare management reports, analyze trends, and support safety equipment readiness, program tools, customer audits, orientations, documentation, and safety-representative relationships.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
