About The Position

The Field Product Technician is a highly skilled technical expert responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of API 6A Stemless Greaseless Valves, Pressure Relief and Bleed Down Systems, hydraulic and electronic control systems, specialized tooling, and cutting-edge technology used in hydraulic fracturing (frac) operations. This role requires extensive travel to land-based frac field locations throughout the United States to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and performance in high-pressure, fast-paced environments. Reporting to the Product Manager, the technician will liaise with clients and vendors, develop technical procedures, and train internal personnel on the use and maintenance of advanced systems. The position demands adaptability, technical proficiency, and a forward-thinking approach to implementing new technology in the frac industry.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with API 6A valves, pressure relief systems, or frac equipment
  • Proven expertise in hydraulic systems, electronic controls, and specialized tooling used in frac operations
  • Advanced mechanical skills with hands-on experience in stemless greaseless valves and high-pressure frac systems.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic systems (e.g., pumps, actuators) and electronic controls (e.g., PLCs, sensors, automation).
  • Ability to adapt to and implement new technology and tooling in dynamic field settings.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on high-pressure equipment and real-time problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with clients, vendors, and internal teams, plus technical writing ability for procedure development.
  • Competence in reading technical schematics, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and frac-specific documentation.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools (e.g., pressure gauges, multimeters) and frac-related software platforms.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), work in confined spaces, and endure outdoor frac site conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or associate degree in mechanical engineering, hydraulics, electronics, or a related field preferred
  • Prior field service experience in land-based frac locations is highly desirable
  • API 6A training or certification (preferred).
  • OSHA 10/30, H2S Awareness, or frac-specific safety certifications (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Install API 6A Stemless Greaseless Valves, Pressure Relief and Bleed Down Systems, and associated hydraulic/electronic control systems at frac sites.
  • Deploy specialized tooling and new technology components, ensuring proper integration with frac equipment and infrastructure.
  • Conduct commissioning activities, including pressure testing, system calibration, and functional verification of advanced features.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on stemless greaseless valves, pressure relief systems, and control units to ensure operational uptime.
  • Inspect equipment for wear, leaks, or damage, focusing on high-pressure components and innovative greaseless designs.
  • Maintain and service hydraulic systems, electronic controls, and tooling, replacing parts like seals, sensors, or actuators as needed.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with valves, pressure relief systems, and control technologies, addressing hydraulic, electronic, or mechanical failures.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems in real-time, such as pressure anomalies, bleed-down malfunctions, or automation errors, in high-stakes frac environments.
  • Repair or recommend upgrades to enhance equipment durability and performance under extreme conditions.
  • Work with emerging technologies, including stemless greaseless valve designs, advanced pressure relief systems, and next-generation control systems.
  • Test and validate new tooling and technologies in the field, providing detailed feedback to the Product Manager and vendors for refinement.
  • Assist in deploying prototype systems, ensuring seamless adoption into frac operations.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for clients, addressing operational challenges and demonstrating equipment capabilities.
  • Collaborate with vendors to source parts, resolve technical issues, and integrate third-party innovations into existing systems.
  • Collect client and vendor input to inform product improvements and procedural updates.
  • Write and refine detailed technical procedures for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of API 6A systems and new technology.
  • Document best practices for tooling use, safety protocols, and system optimization specific to frac operations.
  • Update procedures based on field experience, client feedback, and technological advancements.
  • Train internal personnel, including field technicians and frac operators, on the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of specialized equipment.
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions and create instructional materials to support team proficiency with new systems and tooling.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning by sharing insights on emerging technologies and procedural updates.
  • Adhere to OSHA, API 6A, and frac-specific safety standards while working in high-pressure, hazardous environments.
  • Ensure all equipment installations and repairs comply with industry regulations and manufacturer specifications.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with frac operations, such as pressure surges or equipment failures.
  • Prepare comprehensive service reports, including installation details, maintenance records, troubleshooting outcomes, and client interactions.
  • Document performance metrics for new technology and tooling, submitting findings to the Product Manager for analysis.
  • Maintain accurate logs of equipment serial numbers, test results, and procedural updates.
  • Travel extensively to land-based frac sites across the US, adapting to remote locations and variable schedules.
  • Respond to urgent service calls, working extended hours or weekends as required to support frac operations.
