This position is typically performed in 24-hour shifts or a combination of 12 and 24 hour shifts for an average of 56 hours per week on a rotating schedule. Based on this work schedule, your base wage and rate of $26.86, including overtime, has a potential earning of $89,390.08 annually. COME JOIN A WINNING TEAM! Ad a County Paramedics/EMS Provides advanced-level medical care including evaluation, treatment, and stabilization to the ill and injured. A Paramedic has a comprehensive knowledge base and is able to diagnose and provide care for a broad range of medical emergencies. This position is located in the Ada County Emergency Medical Services Department.

Requirements

• Must possess and maintain Idaho State licensure as a Paramedic
• Must maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency paramedicine, and must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses, and seminars both on and off duty to maintain paramedic certification, as required by the State of Idaho
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
• Knowledge of the street systems, addresses and physical layout of Ada County
• Knowledge of rescue and emergency medical equipment
• Skill in performing technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy
• Skill in understanding and effectively dealing with emotional and medical needs of patients
• Skill in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of all units of measure
• Ability to diagnose and treat a medical emergency with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to maintain a professional and objective approach to the care of ill or injured persons
• Ability to learn new concepts in rescue techniques, medical skills, and pre-hospital care
• Ability to perform basic maintenance of rescue and medical equipment
• Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents
• Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization and resources exist
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and orders
• Ability to maintain a professional attitude when representing the Department
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to safely drive and operate emergency vehicles
• Ability to work twelve or twenty-four (12 or 24) hour shifts
• Regular and punctual attendance is required to ensure timely and quality emergency response services
• Current AHA BLS Provider Card
• Current "State of Idaho" or Paramedic Card and/or, National Registry Paramedic Card and/or, Paramedic Certification or Licensure from another state and the ability to get Idaho State licensure as a condition of employment.
• Current AHA ACLS or ACLS EP Card (Required for Paramedics)
• AHA PALS or ALS PEPP card (Required for Paramedics)

Responsibilities

• Administer and direct efficient and effective first aid treatment, medical care, or life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings in compliance with clinical standards, requiring the possession and maintenance of State licensure as a Paramedic in addition to: Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
• Access, extricate, immobilize, and transport patients from a range of locations and emergency medical situations to appropriate medical facility, administering treatment along the way, requiring an excellent level of fitness, stamina, eyesight, and physical agility
• Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures
• Operates and navigates emergency vehicles and operates equipment necessary to perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures
• Communicates effectively with necessary parties in person and/or off-site using radio or other means, including paramedic, EMT, dispatch, hospital, police, and fire personnel
• Participate in continuing training and instruction to include emergency medicine, hazardous materials, disaster response, technical rescue, occupational safety practices, customer service, and other pertinent subjects
• Maintains Patient Care Reports, files, and forms
• Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training, and daily work
• Ensures the quality and accuracy of care provided by EMTs
• Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles, and living quarters
• Provides training to personnel
• Performs technical rescues
• Performs other related functions as assigned
