Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management or related field AND 10-15 years’ Health & Safety experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary safety partner to the Director of Field Operations and field leadership teams.
  • Provide hands-on leadership, focused on the safety, wellbeing, and readiness of the craft workforce.
  • Act as a visible and trusted safety resource for craft workforce across projects.
  • Achieve desired results through effective leadership and appropriate influence and adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Develop and support programs, lead and coordinate onboarding, general (non-project) safety orientation, and drug and alcohol program administration to ensure all craft workforce are prepared to safely enter and perform work on project sites.
  • Verify safety training and qualifications and identify and support additional training and development.
  • Ensure workforce-facing safety programs are consistently implemented and aligned with Built in Safety expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Support and promote mental health and wellbeing initiatives for the craft workforce.
  • Partner with field leadership, HR, and union representatives to increase awareness, access to resources, and early intervention.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to support craft workforce safety, including training, observations, inspections, audits, permit-to-work, and incident response.
  • Conduct and coordinate field safety observations and inspections across project sites, providing real-time feedback and coaching to workforce and field leadership.
  • Provide regional field support coverage, ensuring consistent application of workforce safety programs across assigned projects.
  • Identify recurring issues and trends, escalating insights to the ACI craft workforce, safety department, and field leadership.
  • Coordinate incident reporting, investigation activities, and case management involving craft workforce. Assist project teams as required.
  • Partner with field leadership to ensure timely implementation of corrective actions and reinforcement of lessons learned.
  • Implementation of Lessons Learned to all sites to ensure best in class consistency.
  • Monitor recovery progress and return-to-work (RTW) considerations for injured craft workforce. Involve Safety Director in a timely manner with issues that could have a significant impact on safety performance or client perception.
  • Deliver and support safety training, communications, and engagement initiatives for the craft workforce.
  • Facilitate craft safety committees and engagement forums, strengthening workforce participation and feedback in safety programs.
  • Effectively train, coach, and develop craft workforce to achieve and maintain positive working relationships within the department.
  • Coach and train superintendents and foremen on key Built in Safety elements, including daily hazard assessment completion (SafeCard) to ensure positive conversations lead to incident prevention.
  • Utilize company systems and processes to ensure safety training records and materials are maintained.
  • Assist the project teams and field leads in developing Activity Hazard Assessments for projects as required.
  • Develop weekly toolbox talks and safety messages for craft engagement.
  • Write and develop emergency action plans and other supporting plans for individual projects.
  • Engage and collaborate for review and creation of SOPs.
  • Support project teams during regulatory inspections (e.g., OSHA), ensuring coordination and appropriate follow-up.
  • Ensure workforce-facing activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Partner with supervisors to facilitate appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Promote and initiate incentive programs that encourage positive contributions to safety culture.
  • Remain current on trends, practices, and legal issues.
  • Establish relationships with project and clients' safety staff, and support integration of client safety practices into craft workforce.
