Field / Operations Manager

COMMUNICATIONS INSTALL SOLUTIONS INCSan Francisco, CA
$84,000 - $110,000Hybrid

About The Position

The Field / Operations Manager owns project execution and team performance across our active sites. You'll be the connective tissue between the field, project management, and leadership — making sure work is delivered on time, on spec, and within budget while building a stronger, more capable team in the process. This is a role for someone who is equally comfortable reviewing a project plan, walking a job site, coaching a foreman, and spotting the next opportunity to win business. Communications Install Solutions (CIS Inc.) is a structured cabling and low-voltage installation contractor delivering mission-critical fiber and copper infrastructure for hyperscale data center environments. We operate across multiple U.S. clusters and international markets, and we hold ourselves to the high safety, compliance, and quality standards our clients demand. As we grow, we're looking for a hands-on operations leader who can keep projects on track, develop our field teams, and help the business run sharper.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of management experience, leading teams and owning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of data center operations and the standards that govern work in these environments.
  • Basic knowledge of project management principles (scope, schedule, budget, resourcing).
  • Excellent communication skills — clear, direct, and effective with field crews, peers, and clients alike.
  • Strong organizational skills — able to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines without losing the details.

Nice To Haves

  • Working familiarity with structured cabling / low-voltage installation (fiber and copper).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, cutsheets, and specifications.
  • Comfort with safety and client compliance frameworks (e.g., OSHA, site-specific work-control procedures).
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
  • Proficiency with standard business and project tools (email, spreadsheets, project tracking software).
  • Experience working as a subcontractor in hyperscale or mission-critical data center builds.
  • BICSI certification (e.g., RCDD, Technician) or equivalent industry credentials.
  • Experience managing multi-site or geographically distributed crews.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Portuguese) a strong plus, given our international operations.
  • Familiarity with project management platforms (e.g., Jira) and reporting workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee projects end-to-end — from kickoff through closeout, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met across all active sites.
  • Coach and develop employees — mentor field leads and technicians, build skills, and grow the bench so the team can take on more complex work.
  • Coordinate with department heads and Project Management to align field execution with organizational goals and keep everyone working from the same plan.
  • Improve work processes to increase productivity and reduce time per project — identify bottlenecks, standardize what works, and roll out better methods.
  • Evaluate employee performance — set clear expectations, give regular feedback, and conduct fair, consistent performance reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue and connect with new customers — surface scope changes, new project leads, and client relationships that grow the business.
  • Champion safety and compliance — enforce site safety protocols and client work-control requirements, and hold the team accountable to them.
  • Manage resources and logistics — coordinate labor, materials, and equipment across sites to avoid delays and shortfalls.
