NextEra Energy is seeking an experienced, safety-focused individual to join the High Voltage Operations team as an HV Strike Team Technician I, supporting the NextEra Energy Resources (NEER) generating fleet in the execution of planned NERC outages, high-voltage maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and PRC-028 compliance work. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, organized, process-driven, and able to work collaboratively with technicians, operations, engineering, project management, SCADA/communications personnel, site teams, and external vendors to complete NERC outages safely within defined outage windows. The candidate should have working knowledge of substation equipment and electrical systems and must be able to read and interpret DC electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, relay drawings, and field work packages. Responsibilities include supporting site readiness reviews and walkdowns; confirming access, safety, LOTO, outage, escort, material, and equipment requirements; executing or supporting testing and maintenance activities; overseeing vendor installation of Digital Fault Recorder equipment, panels, fusing, grounding, CT/PT circuits, communications, and time-synchronization components; assisting with point-to-point checks, continuity testing, relay setting implementation and verification, functional testing, alarm validation, commissioning, and equipment restoration; coordinating resources, logistics, and field issue resolution; documenting as-found and as-left conditions, test results, redlines, settings files, discrepancies, and closeout records; and helping ensure final turnover packages support compliance, audit readiness, asset records, and future maintenance. Due to the 24-hour, 7-day-per-week nature of power generation, night, weekend, and holiday support by telephone or call-out may be required. This position will be based at a Renewables site and requires approximately 40%–50% travel. Electrical equipment and system includes: Medium- and high-voltage switchgear and motor control centers AC and DC station service systems, batteries, chargers, control circuits, and associated electrical equipment Disconnect switches and grounding switches Circuit breakers and associated control mechanisms Power, station-service, and instrument transformers, including CT and PT circuits Protective relays, relay panels, test switches, and control wiring Digital Fault Recorders, communications interfaces, alarms, and time-synchronization equipment Transmission line and substation equipment. This senior-level technical position provides expertise in the areas of transmission/substation operations, collection system construction and maintenance, transmission and substation maintenance, and troubleshooting. Additional responsibilities may include the support of senior-level technicians in project management and contractor oversite within a specified geographical region while ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to the power grid. This position requires less than 10% supervision and work oversight.
