About The Position

NextEra Energy is seeking an experienced, safety-focused individual to join the High Voltage Operations team as an HV Strike Team Technician I, supporting the NextEra Energy Resources (NEER) generating fleet in the execution of planned NERC outages, high-voltage maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and PRC-028 compliance work. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, organized, process-driven, and able to work collaboratively with technicians, operations, engineering, project management, SCADA/communications personnel, site teams, and external vendors to complete NERC outages safely within defined outage windows. The candidate should have working knowledge of substation equipment and electrical systems and must be able to read and interpret DC electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, relay drawings, and field work packages. Responsibilities include supporting site readiness reviews and walkdowns; confirming access, safety, LOTO, outage, escort, material, and equipment requirements; executing or supporting testing and maintenance activities; overseeing vendor installation of Digital Fault Recorder equipment, panels, fusing, grounding, CT/PT circuits, communications, and time-synchronization components; assisting with point-to-point checks, continuity testing, relay setting implementation and verification, functional testing, alarm validation, commissioning, and equipment restoration; coordinating resources, logistics, and field issue resolution; documenting as-found and as-left conditions, test results, redlines, settings files, discrepancies, and closeout records; and helping ensure final turnover packages support compliance, audit readiness, asset records, and future maintenance. Due to the 24-hour, 7-day-per-week nature of power generation, night, weekend, and holiday support by telephone or call-out may be required. This position will be based at a Renewables site and requires approximately 40%–50% travel.

Requirements

High School Grad / GED
4+ years of experience
Valid Driver's License (NON-CDL)
Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices, including LOTO, switching, grounding, and safe work execution in high-voltage substation environments
Working knowledge of substation equipment, systems, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and equipment restoration
Ability to read and interpret DC electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and relay drawings
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team to safely complete NERC outages within defined outage windows
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40%–50% and provide night, weekend, or holiday support when required

Responsibilities

Perform routine work in the construction and maintenance of all substation, transmission, and collection system equipment
Work with data communication equipment
Report and coordinate emergency response and repair to all high voltage equipment and systems within an assigned geographical area with resources from Energy Resource Control Center and Technical Services
Establish and maintain high voltage inventory, equipment, and vehicles within an assigned geographical area according to company safety and maintenance standards
Perform routine work on assigned tasks with corporate, regional, and cross-functional assets and resources
Maintain compliance and non-compliance maintenance tasks and schedules
Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations, and market requirements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, and leverage assets and resources to accomplish assigned work
Complete Yellow Belt certification and coach others through the company quality process
Maintain adherence to the company safety culture, policies, and process while meeting all safety targets
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
