The Field Meter Technician installs, tests, repairs, rebuilds, replaces, and maintains commercial and domestic water meters from various manufacturers. This role involves performing pipe work repairs as needed, replacing worn or defective parts, and reassembling meters. The technician will investigate and report unusual conditions, test meters for accuracy and leaks at the job site or in the shop, and contact property owners/occupants regarding repair schedules. Safety is paramount, requiring the use of atmospheric analyzers, fresh air blowers, and water pumps in meter vaults. The job requires using various hand tools, often in cramped, underground vaults under adverse environmental and physical conditions. Additionally, the technician must maintain the crew vehicle, keep maintenance/repair records, complete work tickets daily, and ensure job site safety compliance with OSHA, the State of Maryland, and WSSC Water standards. Meter reading may also be required.
