Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting information in one-on-one or small group settings.
  • Proficient in basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address situations with limited variables.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, squatting, twisting, or stooping for extended periods.
  • Adaptable to moderate noise levels and changing environments in field and shop settings.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision and guidance, the Field Apprentice assists in welding, machining, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • This role involves hands-on work in both field and shop environments, contributing to various tasks and projects while developing technical skills and gaining valuable experience.
  • Weld, machine, grind, and/or fabricate materials.
  • Modify and adjust metal parts for special projects.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Build, repair, fabricate, or machine parts.
  • Set up and operate shop machining equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses, to produce or modify components.
  • Assist in the setup, operation, and teardown of field machining equipment, such as portable lathes, boring bars, or flange facers, to perform on-site machining tasks.
  • Interpret blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure proper machine operation and part fabrication.
  • Monitor machining processes to ensure precision and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop machining strategies for custom or complex parts.
  • Perform general machine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts.
  • Adhere to safety protocols while working with shop and field machining equipment, ensuring a safe environment for all personnel.
  • Travel with experienced machinists to learn Atlas and the processes we follow and adhere to.
