About The Position

Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Field Hockey Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing the Town's youth field hockey clinic. The Director will create a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the sport while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. The season is 8 weeks in the Fall, with approximately 3-8 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Available for the full duration of the program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the game of field hockey through playing, coaching, or instructional experience.
  • Ability to work effectively with youth participants, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Proven communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • May be required to successfully pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred; training may be provided by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead all field hockey clinic sessions, including developing age-appropriate drills, skill instruction, and practice activities.
  • Provide direct instruction in field hockey fundamentals, including stick handling, passing, receiving, shooting, defensive techniques, game strategy, and sportsmanship.
  • Supervise and provide direction to staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure all equipment and program materials, including balls, cones, goals, and goalie equipment, are available and properly set up before each session.
  • Monitor participant attendance and notify the Recreation Supervisor of chronic absences or concerns.
  • Maintain familiarity with participant emergency information and medical alerts.
  • Administer First Aid and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Complete all accident and incident reports and submit them to the Recreation Office in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that only registered participants are allowed on the field and direct registration inquiries to the Recreation Office.
  • Communicate regularly with participants, parents, staff, and the Recreation Supervisor regarding program updates.
  • Attend league meetings and coordinate friendly games, including occasional travel to nearby locations if required.
  • Inspect the field and equipment for safety concerns and report hazardous conditions to the appropriate Town department.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly stored and the facility is left in good condition following each session.
  • Remain on-site until all participants have been safely picked up.
  • Submit staff timesheets and other required program documentation on a weekly basis.
  • Complete an end-of-season program evaluation, including recommendations for future improvements and equipment needs.
