About The Position

Sureway Construction Group of Companies is recruiting for a professional Field Health and Safety Advisor to join our team! Sureway Construction Group offers a fantastic opportunity to join a leading team in the construction industry. Reporting to the Safety Manager, this high-paced position is primarily responsible for providing field level health and safety support and building relationships with the entire construction and maintenance teams. The H&S Advisor also supports the Safety department within the office with safety orientations, safety training, drug and alcohol testing, etc.

Requirements

  • NCSO designation (all courses current)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean Driving Record
  • CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
  • Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation
  • NCSO designation with a minimum 5 years’ experience, as a safety professional, in the construction industry.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
  • Highly developed leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulation and Code, and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Assist in developing and leading morning PSI and weekly safety meetings
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Ensure the timely completion of workplace incidents investigations/reporting to Corporate Office.
  • Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all Sureway Construction Group employees and subcontractors.
  • Deliver new hire safety orientations and conduct pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
  • Periodically act as a team leader to special projects and/or health and safety committees.
  • Provide direction and/or guidance to less experienced occupational safety personnel.
