About The Position

S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Field Geologist to support drilling operations at various locations for their client, Southern Company, in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. As a Field Geologist, the primary responsibility is technical direction and successful execution of subsurface field investigations in support of engineering site assessments, environmental studies, and foundation remediation. The role involves extensive travel, with the employee typically traveling directly to each site from home. A company truck and coverage of travel expenses by Southern Company are provided.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field
• 3+ years of experience working directly in a geologic, environmental, engineering, construction, or other geological-related field
• Proficiency in the gINT Boring Log Program
• Flexible computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• A safety-first mindset
• Strong customer focus and conflict resolution skills
• Willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment
• Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
• Candidates must comply with our Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
• Only candidates with valid employment eligibility (I-9) will be considered.

Nice To Haves

• A Professional Geology (PG) license

Responsibilities

• Field oversight for monitoring well installation programs, foundation investigations, underground utility investigations, or related projects
• Perform soil and rock logging
• Prepare professional logs for soil, rock, and monitoring well construction data
• Manage drilling and other related contractors according to company guidelines and procedures
• Interface with various customers and assist Drilling Services leaders and internal drilling resources to facilitate field investigations
