About The Position

The Field Expert Program is designed for individuals seeking professional growth and increased responsibility within the company. Field Experts are expected to contribute to the quality of trips and regions, embodying the company's TE (Trip Expert) and OpX (Operations Expert) criteria. This role primarily involves serving as a Trip Leader or TPS (Trip Planning Specialist) in the field, requiring strong planning and time management skills, especially during peak seasons. The specific duties and complexity of the role can vary based on seasonal demand, business needs, and input from regional leadership. The application for this program closes on August 12, 2026.

Requirements

  • Trip Leader Performance must be 25% or greater, with a minimum of 20 guest evaluations.
  • If fewer than 20 evaluations, LPF must be 40% or greater, with a minimum of 3 trips led.
  • Ability to improve trip quality (TE) and regional quality (OpX).
  • Trip leading, TPS, and/or personal experience in the region.
  • Cultural knowledge and understanding of the region.
  • Working knowledge of Office 365 systems: Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Microsoft Word/Excel.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Timely and responsive communication.
  • Meets language requirements for the region.
  • Biking TEs and OpXs must be tested Proficient or higher in bike skills.
  • Meeting minimum scheduling availability requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year commitment is highly recommended and preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the quality and value of assigned trips, viewing them from a guest's perspective.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Propose and review trip changes, marketing materials, contracts, and costs.
  • Collaborate with regional directors and field leads to optimize itineraries.
  • Complete Presearch, Quality Assessment & Search, and Pre-Season Updates projects.
  • Maintain accurate and complete product portal (Ascent) itineraries, GPS routes, and On Trip App information.
  • Conduct weekly quality reviews of trip feedback and communicate trends to leadership and suppliers.
  • Ensure timely completion of Travel Planner and web page reviews for accuracy and quality.
  • Prepare for Field Presearch by connecting with leadership, setting up supplier meetings, and creating a Field Presearch plan.
  • Review and update field staff resources such as Emergency Resources, FAM guides, and Prep Day Checklists.
  • Review and update guest resources such as On Trip App and Travel Planner.
  • Conduct mid-season Quality Assessment and Quality Search efforts.
  • Problem-solve current-year quality issues and research future year quality improvements.
  • Complete Pre-Season Updates (PSUs) for the following year's products.
  • Ensure all products for the following year are built out in the Product Portal (Ascent), including information for contracting, selling trips, and leader setup.
  • Maintain and improve the quality of assigned regions, ensuring a smooth and cost-effective experience for field staff.
  • Welcome field staff entering the region and educate them on company systems.
  • Oversee all aspects of field house and overflow accommodations.
  • Establish and maintain organized storage spaces for equipment.
  • Coordinate with the operations team, help field staff solve logistical issues, and collaborate with field staff to refine systems.
  • Ensure all Backroads operations policies are followed and new initiatives are implemented.
  • Actively communicate with field staff entering, working in, and departing the region.
  • Maintain all equipment, bikes, and Backroads possessions.
  • Coordinate the arrival and departure of vans, trailers, bikes, and unit equipment.
  • Coordinate regional bed bookings and overflow accommodations.
  • Communicate transportation needs to the FLO (Field Lead - Operations).
  • Act as the regional point person for landlord relations.
  • Receive feedback from field staff and suggest improvements to the FLO.
  • Find field house and storage if not already established or if overflow is needed.
  • Create and update regional documents such as RON, Welcome Doc, and Unit Schedule.
  • Ensure utilities and cleaning services are set up, billed, and paid for in a timely manner.
  • Set up and stock inventory for field house, storage, and office spaces.
  • Coordinate the arrival of roving mechanics and mid-season maintenance, including inventorying bikes and equipment.
  • Coordinate van and trailer maintenance as needed.
  • Update RON at the end of the season.
  • Close down field house, storage, and office spaces.
  • Ensure utilities and cleaning services are closed down.
  • Return all necessary equipment to the hub.
