About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Geologist to support the Environmental business line, primarily working on Federal projects. This position involves 90-100% of work conducted in the field. The role utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope. Responsibilities include applying standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, and sediment; preparing samples for shipping; and completing chain-of-custody or similar paperwork. The Geologist will apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations, conduct oversight of subcontractors (laboratories, excavation and drilling companies), and study contaminants to determine how to restore the environment. The role also involves preparing basic data and scientific documents, possessing technical report writing skills, performing unsupervised field tasks, directing staff in the execution of tasks, and coordinating with task and project managers. The Geologist will work with on-site subcontractors and field staff, supporting sampling, data collection, and field documentation, and provide technical expertise support. A key aspect of the role is to learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition and environmental investigation or remediation. The position requires travel to various job sites within the US and flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Engineering or other related discipline (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology) + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Valid U.S. driver’s license required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle records check (MVR) in accordance with company policy.
Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required.
Candidate must be able to pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check to obtain U.S. Federal Government Credentials.
Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology or other related discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology).
Professional registration or track to obtain professional registration.
Experience with developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies
Proficiency in standard office suite software applications.
Selected candidate will be required to complete 40 hour HAZWOPER training, OSHA 30-Hour Training for Construction and General Industry, and annual 8 hour refresher class. Currently trained is a plus.
Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.
Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds of sampling equipment and coolers, with assistance up to 90% of the time.
Safely drive and operate a full-size pickup truck.
Be medically fit for wearing a respirator
Able to work in variable climate conditions including heat, snow, cold, wind, rain, etc.

Responsibilities
