About The Position

Oversee the planning and execution of subsurface investigation and the laboratory testing program for site characterization of utility-scale wind and solar projects. This role involves scheduling fieldwork, coordinating with drilling contractors, field engineers, and vendors, and performing fieldwork for geotechnical subsurface investigations. The position also includes performing geophysical surveys, bearing capacity and settlement calculations, slope stability analysis, and assisting in the preparation of reports and specifications. The Field Engineer will observe and document geotechnical construction activities and utilize various software for reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Geological Sciences or Geophysics or related required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Revit software for field sketches and reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Previous experience in outdoor/field working/driving conditions required.
  • Valid driver license and a clean driving record required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning and execution of subsurface investigation and laboratory testing program for site characterization of utility-scale wind and solar projects.
  • Schedule fieldwork, call in underground utilities, and interact with drilling contractors, field engineers, and vendors.
  • Perform fieldwork for geotechnical subsurface investigation, including overseeing drilling and sampling operations, visual field reconnaissance, and soil and rock logging.
  • Perform geophysical surveys such as seismic surveys and earth electrical resistivity surveys.
  • Perform bearing capacity and settlement calculations for shallow and deep foundation systems.
  • Perform slope stability analysis, earthwork calculations, and prepare recommendations for design and construction of low traffic access roads.
  • Assist in the preparation and submittal of calculation packages, geotechnical reports, and design memoranda.
  • Prepare design specifications and perform research for new concepts and technologies.
  • Observe and document geotechnical construction activities through regular on-site inspections of earth-related construction phases for renewable energy projects.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Revit for field sketches and reporting.
  • Perform other geotechnical activities as required.
