Field Engineer - Data Center Liquid Cooling

Fluid2Chip
•$100,000 - $120,000

About The Position

Fluid2Chip is seeking experienced Field Engineers to support the deployment, installation, commissioning, and operational readiness of mission-critical liquid cooling and water-based cooling systems in high-performance computing and data center environments. This highly field-oriented, customer-facing role serves as Fluid2Chip’s on-site technical representation during installation and commissioning activities. The Field Engineer observes system readiness, identifies concerns, documents field conditions, and supports successful project execution. The role requires an understanding of the mechanical and chemical requirements of mission-critical cooling systems, along with the ability to recognize installation inconsistencies, operational risks, and procedural concerns. It is not a laboratory or water-sampling role; success depends on proactive observation, sound judgment, effective communication, and disciplined documentation in active mission-critical environments. Travel to customer and project sites around the United States is required, up to 75%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical) or a related technical field; equivalent hands-on experience in water treatment, commissioning, or complex fluid systems may be considered instead of a formal degree.
  • Experience with mission-critical cooling systems, hydronic systems, industrial water systems, mechanical commissioning, or related infrastructure environments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical understanding of fluid-based cooling systems.
  • Ability to think critically and make sound field observations in dynamic construction and commissioning environments.
  • Strong organizational, reporting, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and communicate them effectively and professionally.
  • Comfort interacting directly with customers, contractors, engineers, and operations teams.
  • Ability to follow procedures, respect chain of command, and collaborate across multiple organizations and stakeholders.
  • Comfort working in active construction sites, data centers, and commissioning environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based collaboration and documentation platforms.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% to customer and project sites.
  • Must be located near a major airport.
  • A valid REAL ID or acceptable alternative, such as a passport, is required for domestic air travel associated with the position under the notice effective May 7, 2025.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Autodesk construction/design tools and Procore project management software.
  • Practical field experience or operational awareness in mission-critical facilities and data centers.
  • Background in mechanical commissioning and startup.
  • Background in hydronic and industrial water systems.
  • Background in HVAC and process cooling infrastructure.
  • Background in construction quality and field engineering.
  • Background in military or industrial technical operations.
  • Background in water treatment and cooling system operations.
  • Background in critical facility operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and support installation, commissioning, cleaning, flushing, fill/purge, startup, and operational-readiness activities for liquid cooling and water-based cooling systems.
  • Serve as Fluid2Chip’s customer-facing technical representative at active project sites and mission-critical facilities.
  • Monitor field activities and identify potential mechanical, operational, installation, or procedural concerns related to system quality, reliability, and readiness.
  • Understand the chemical and mechanical requirements of closed-loop cooling systems and mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Maintain detailed daily reports, field observations, photographic documentation, issue tracking, and activity summaries.
  • Communicate findings, concerns, risks, and project updates clearly and professionally through established chain-of-command processes.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, commissioning providers, operations personnel, and project teams throughout deployment.
  • Support field coordination while recognizing that contractors and trade personnel are responsible for executing and directing work.
  • Recognize when escalation or additional technical support is needed and proactively seek assistance.
  • Support adherence to site procedures, safety expectations, cleanliness requirements, and commissioning standards.
