Company Intrinsic is Alphabet’s bet aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what’s possible for industrial robotics in the near future – with software and data at the core. Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics. Role As a Robotics Field Engineer, you are the critical link between our advanced automation software and its real-world execution. You will be responsible for the on-site success of Intrinsic’s robotic cells, ensuring high reliability and seamless operation within our partners' facilities. This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical curiosity and the ability to navigate complex robotic systems. You will lead small-scale deployments, act as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting, and ensure our customers are empowered to operate our technology. This role requires a high degree of mobility, with upwards of 50% travel to partner sites for extended periods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Diagnostic Proficiency: Ability to read and navigate C++ and Python codebases and utilize structured logging (e.g., Protobuf, JSON logs) to identify and resolve system behaviors.
  • Robotics Fundamentals: Foundational understanding of industrial machinery, including robotic kinematics, sensors, and safety protocols.
  • Operational Independence: Proven ability to lead technical projects solo in the field, making sound tactical decisions while maintaining close communication with remote stakeholders.
  • Resilience & Travel: Ability to work on-site at industrial facilities for extended durations (up to 50% of the year).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Linux environments and command-line troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking protocols and hardware integration (sensors, grippers, and safety controllers).
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing technical role, specifically within the automotive, electronics, or logistics sectors.
  • Knowledge of ROS/ROS 2 and basic experience with containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

  • Lead On-Site Deployments: Independently manage the installation and commissioning of small-scale robotic cells, coordinating with remote engineering teams to ensure successful "go-live" events.
  • Ensure System Reliability: Maximize uptime by proactively monitoring system health and performing rapid root-cause analysis on hardware and software issues using structured logging and diagnostic tools.
  • Bridge the Feedback Loop: Communicate technical challenges and site-specific edge cases back to the core engineering team, reading through C++ and Python codebases to provide precise context for bug fixes.
  • Empower Partners: Act as a technical mentor for customer operators, conducting training sessions that translate complex robotic processes into actionable operational knowledge.
