About The Position

Southland Holdings is currently accepting resumes for experienced Field Engineers in Vinton, LA. We are looking for someone with knowledge in drainage, utility, and roadway construction. This role involves a mix of field and office operations, including coordinating with subcontractors, providing field layout, managing materials, quality control, and assisting senior engineers with various tasks. The Field Engineer will also be responsible for construction administration, observation services, evaluating submittals, processing as-built drawings, and ensuring project close-out requirements are met. Maintaining effective relationships with project stakeholders and executing additional assigned duties are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Construction/related degree with 2+ years of Heavy Civil construction experience
  • Excellent computer skills and analytical ability
  • Surveying capabilities
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Understanding of industrial construction process
  • Must have ability to interpret contract specifications and drawings
  • Knowledge of contract procedures and principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment
  • Ability to understand construction logic and sequencing of complex projects

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, forward and track status of submittits.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors.
  • Provide field layout to crews.
  • Assisting management with field & office operations such as ordering of materials and quality control.
  • Receive and review change orders.
  • Assist more senior civil engineers with entry level engineering tasks.
  • Assist with performing onsite construction administration and construction observation services including reporting/monitoring contractor's compliance with contract documents.
  • Evaluates submittals of shop drawings, material data and samples and takes appropriate action based upon contract specifications, submission of correspondence to the owner and quantity tracking.
  • Reviews and processes as-built drawings to ensure that all changes during the course of construction are recorded.
  • Completes project close out requirements in accordance with contract documents.
  • Coordinates meeting agendas, prepares minutes and follows up on action items.
  • Maintains effective and professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers and contractors.
  • Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
